Domesticated Ducks?
"Cats and Dogs are fine I suppose", she said "but they do not make you laugh, they do not amuse you. It is hard to tell if they like you." What animal does do that? "Ducks. Oh they are such troublemakers. They follow you around and try to get into the house. They are so mischievous."

Ducks Get the Stale Bread
From the Sydney Morning Herald:
The second guiding philosophy was that anything and everything could be reused. In high school I enjoyed a blissful week of cinnamon buns for morning tea. I thought perhaps Mum had realised the error of her ways and was trying to show her remorse with bakery goods. This was shattered when I walked into the kitchen to find her liberating my beloved buns from the bag of stale bread my father purchased each week to feed our pet duck.
And England's counterpoint.
